Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is now universally and justly recognized as the fore-most living exponent of the kirana gharana. Pandit-ji's long and succesful career has been crowned, at home, with such prestigious honours as the Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan titles and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards, has seen his acheive wide recognition abroad. It is during one of his many international tours that he gave the recital presented in this album, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London on the 19th of Sept 1999. The mastery of the performance speaks for itself and would, whatever the age of the artiste, but for a man then in his 76th year, it is a little short of astonishing.
