Bhimsen Joshi: Pandit Bhimsen Joshi - Vocal CD Track Listing
Bhimsen Joshi
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi - Vocal (1991)
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi - Vocal\nAnanda Gopal Bandopadhyaya - Tabla\n\nRecorded live at Ramakrishna Mission Auditorium, Calcutta, January 1991\nProduced by Zakir Hussain\nReleased 1991 by Moment Records MCRD 1002 DDD\n\nThe rag Shuddh Kalyan is one of the more subtle rags in the modern repertory. Because of the difficulty\nin maintaining an subtle balance of colors throughout its performance, it is approached by all artists\nwith great respect. It is not so often heard, and is usually in the active repertory of only the mature\nmasters of the tradition. For this reason, it is also eagerly received by connoisseurs.\n\nA dadra is a light classical composition in the genre of a thumri: a love song with a short repeating text\nset in a highly ornamented style. Rag Khammaj is a popular rage with love as its main mood.\n\nThe concluding two items are bhajans, or devotional songs. The first is a musical setting of the words\nof the 16th century saint and poet, Kabir. Both are in the light classical rag Sindh Bhairavi, one \nwhich permits borrowed notes in a great variety of configurations, hence the difference in the \nsound of the two.\n\nVocal support during this recital is provided by Panditji's student, Madhav Guddi.
This classical cd contains 3 tracks and runs 66min 30sec.
