Ted Heath Pow & Big Band Spirituals (2004)
This is a CD re-issue of two big band albums originally released on London Phase 4 stereo in the mid sixties. This is tightly arranged and well executed ensemble with tasty solos. The songs are very accessible and shows Ted Heath's successful attempt at capturing post WWII changes in big band choices. Much more swinging than Lawrence Welk could ever muster and much easier to access than a lot of big band bop oriented efforts of the era. For a 1960's recording the sound is superb. Ted Heath never received the top levels of popularity in the U.S. that he deserved. Good music. submitted by Ralph Matthews
