The Four Freshmen Voices In Love + Love Lost (1958)
Originally Released November 17, 1998\n''Voices In Love'' LP Originally Released 1958\n''Love Lost'' LP Originally Released 1959\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: (This compilation) In 1998, Collectors' Choice released Voices in Love/Love Lost, which contained two complete albums -- Voices in Love (1958, originally released on Capitol) and Love Lost (1959, originally released on Capitol) -- by the Four Freshmen on one compact disc. -- by Jason Birchmeier\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nFRESHMEN CLASSICS, March 24, 2004\nReviewer: S. Goddard (fishers, indiana USA)\ni owned both of these albums back in the sixties and was happy to see that they are now available on one cd . i have always believed that these two albums were the freshmen's best and i would recommend them both to anyone who appreciates what real music is supposed to sound like . no cacaphony , no screaming , no vulgarities, no unintelligble lyrics , just real music with the classic four freshmen open harmony sound. outstanding ........\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nNot at their best...., January 9, 2001\nReviewer: A music fan\nI am very surprised to read the rave reviews on this CD. Maybe the one I purchased is just a lemon. The sound quality is poor. Also the voices are distorted. Very disappointed. Years ago I owned the LP "Voices in Love." I think it was their best, and my favorite. I especially like the song "In the Still of the Night." Guess I'll continue to look for the albumn at record shows. Have found many Freshmen albums at used record shops, but "Voices in Love" is eluding me.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nThe Height of Charm and Elegance, September 15, 1999\nReviewer: jean-philippe.epitaux@tsr.ch (Lausanne, Switzerland)\nThe Freshmen are the best thing that could happen to American Popular Song. Their gorgeous arrangements considerably enhance the harmonies of those marvellous melodies without ever destroying their basic richness. This particularly applies to the Love Lost and Voices in Love albums but to me the same can be said about most of the Freshmen Capitol output. Their reissues on the CD format are thus mostly welcome!\n\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\n...Without a doubt , the best they ever recorded!, June 6, 1999\nReviewer: A music fan\nIf your a fan of wonderful harmonies and fabulous arrangements ,'ya gotta have these.\nI've had them on vinyl and never thought they'd be available on c.d. The last one I got was a gift from The Freshmen's former manager back in the early '70's. Ross sent me a note and said that , at the time ,the "Voices in Love" album hadn't been available on Capitol for years. What a great surprise to find it now.\n\nI love these c.d.'s with soft candles , a tasty wine and tasty lady.\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nLet's fall in love, May 1, 1999\nReviewer: A music fan\nMany people feels these two albums were the FF's best. Both gorgeous, lushly orchestrated with an unusual tasty choice of songs and vocals out of this world. Fabulous voicings and harmonies and I remember when the LPs first appeared and were widely celebrated. Anything by the group is worth getting but this is extra special.\n\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nMusic like this can't be found any longer., April 16, 1999\nReviewer: hov53@webtv.net (Fred Hovater) (Birmingham, Al)\nThe Four Freshmen were the BEST.Their harmony is unsurpassed. Theywere the right combination at the right time and all you have to do is listen to this album, its fantastic, enough said.\n\n\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nSanta brought me this one for Christmas!, February 7, 1999\nReviewer: A music fan\nAs I recall, these were the Freshmen's last two LP's before Don Barbour left the group.\nThe mood is softer and slower than previous albums, with lush strings backing up the vocal harmonies.\n\nBest appreciated late at night.\n\n\nHalf.com Details \nProducer: Voyle Gilmore \n\nAlbum Notes\n2 LPS on 1 CD: VOICES IN LOVE (1958)/LOVE LOST (1959).\n\nFour Freshmen: Ken Albers (arranger, vocals, trumpet, mellophone); Bob Flanigan (vocals, trombone); Don Barbour, Ron Barbour (vocals).\n\nAdditional personnel: Dick Reynolds (arranger, conductor).\n\nVOICES IN LOVE originally released on Capitol (1074). LOVE LOST originally released on Capitol (1189).\n\nIf love is a thing of stormy passion, and agonizing heartaches, the 24 songs of romance and heartbreak contained herein, bring out the softer more enjoyable side of romance. The Four Freshmen take these songs and harmonize away all the rough edges with their legato flow. The ballads are treasures of American music. The first 12 tracks were originally released in 1958, and are comprised of "they're playing our song"-type-music. Think slow dancing embracing, moonlight, hearts and flowers. The violins soft presence on these numbers only add to the waves of amorous vocals, as on "Out Of Nowhere".\n\n"Love Lost," the 2nd album reissued here has the Freshmen lending their mellow voices to equally tender songs that, however sad, are extremely catchy. Popular pieces like "Little Girl Blue" may seem dated with the Four Freshmen's quintessential 1950's sound, but it captures a timeless beauty and romance.
This jazz cd contains 24 tracks and runs 77min 45sec.
