In this record-\ning, Sirocco transports you to the red heart of the Australian\ndesert tan then to the gentle evergreen realm of Queensland.\nOur guest, master musician Chai Chang Ning from the \nCentral Conservatory in Bejing, performs on the xuan, a\nbamboo flute that in "one moment can crack granite and the\nnext soar above the clouds". For years, Sriocco has champ-\nioned the cause of musicians that have arrived in Australia\nfrom other countries, seeing them as a cultural enrichment\nto Australian music. Australian music now stands at the \nbeginning of a musical renaissance. Much like the United\nStates at the beginning of this century, Australia more and \nmore has an ethnically varied population representing many\nmusical traditions. Sirocco is proud to be forging a new \ntradition from these raw materials, a music that describes the\nAustralian spirit.
