The Dance Collection (1987)
The Dance Collection - A Compilation Of Twelve Inch Singles\n1987 Casablanca Records, Inc.\nOriginally Released July 6, 1987\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: The best Summer anthology from a dance perspective. This gives the full view of Summer's best tunes the way they were played in the clubs; all the added loops, orchestrations, and extra production, plus her voice mixed to its fullest and even boosted. It covers 73 minutes, which is more than anyone except the disco junkies would ever need, and even has an extra cut on the cassette, rather than on the CD. -- Ron Wynn\n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\na good collection of 12" versions, June 16, 2001 \nReviewer: A music fan from San Francisco, CA USA \nI appreciate some of the previous reviewers' comments. I never owned the vinyl edition of this collection, and I had no idea that "With Your Love" was longer. As to the omission of "Bad Girls" after "Hot Stuff" -- well, that does seem stupid. As is pointed out, "No More Tears" is available in its long version elsewhere and would be a more logical deletion since the segue from "Hot Stuff" to "Bad Girls" is classic, not to mention that both sides were, obviously back to back on the same side of the 12" single.\n\nAs to some of these other songs being easily found on used cd's, I'm not sure what that means. I know of no other cd's that contain the longer versions of "I Feel Love", "Walk Away", or "Dim All The Lights", and I have nearly every Donna Summer cd released as well as hundreds of various artists compilations of disco songs. \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nGood but incomplete, November 14, 2002 \nReviewer: A music fan from Sandton, South Africa \nAlthough this album is a good buy to get the extended versions of some of Summer's greatest dance hits, it is by no means complete. The omission of hits like Bad Girls, Love's Unkind and Love To Love You Baby and of great album tracks like Queen For A Day, Working The Midnight Shift, Lucky and Journey To The Centre Of Your Heart detracts somewhat from the promise of the album title. On the other hand, the inclusion of the magnificent MacArthur Park Suite makes up for a lot of what is missing. And this extended version of I Feel Love is worth the price of the album. Like another reviewer said, this ought to have been a 2-CD set. It is valuable to replace those old 12" vinyl singles, but not a comprehensive reflection of the Queen of Disco's contribution to dance music. \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nNot really the definitive collection we are waiting for, November 9, 2001 \nReviewer: Pierre Declercq from France \nThis collection is great but it's just a first-step-purchase because :\n- The essentials 'Love to love you baby' , 'Bad girls' and 'On the radio' are missing (' Bad girls' is available on the tape and all three songs are on the 4 cd-box 'The Casablanca records story').\n- 'With your love' is edited on the cd (but not on the tape).\n- 'Heaven knows' is not featured in its 12" version.\n- 'Walk away' is edited (the original 12" is actually 8:30 long).\n- Except 'Hot stuff', Donna Summer's 12" versions are not very creative if we compare them with the lp versions. \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nWhere to get those deleted tracks..., July 17, 2001 \nReviewer: DK from Elmont, NY USA \nOkay, There really IS no place to get the full length version of "With Your Love." (I have the vinyl LP, and recorded it onto CD from there). However, if you can afford the Donna Summer Anthology 2 CD set, THAT'S where you can get the 12" version of Hot Stuff segued directly into Bad Girls...a shock for a CD that is all edits, but I promise you, that is the ONE place where it IS available...and ON THE RADIO, although not even on the original vinyl version of this title, is available in its TRUE long version (7:30 or so) on the CASABLANCA STORY 4 CD set...the "long version'" on the On The Radio Greatest hits CD is shorter(5:30)...HOWEVER, the long version (7:30), which was originally on the Foxes soundtrack in 1980, is actually MISSING the final slow verse of the 5:30 version!!! So, for all you diehard fans, there is NO LONG LONG version available...too bad...a nine minute version including that "lost" verse would have been awesome...Hope this info helps fellow fans... \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nWITH YOUR LOVE not the full version!, May 12, 2001 \nReviewer: joeotoole1 from brbmrbt1@aol.com \nAll of these songs are commonly available at used cd' stores etc.(including the full version of MacArhtur Park Suite) EXCEPT the 12" version of with your love. This song was never released commercially until the first edition of this cd/cassette. I originally owned the cassette which DID include the full version of this tittle, when it was eaten by my car sterio i got the cd. Only to mbe very disappointed to find out they had cut this song to 6:06. Someone at Polygram records apparently feels they can cut and edit cd's and think no one is going to notice. I've also seen on a review for "Once Upon A Time" that they have re-arranged the song order. Now how is that possble when the songs are supposed to blend into eachother! I also own the original release of this cd and it is exacylty the way the vynel version was so why the change? Buyer beware! \n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nSlightly edited from the original vinyl version, October 27, 1999 \nReviewer: A music fan from long island, NY \nBe warned! The other customer failed to mention that Bad Girls was deleted from the CD version! It originally tracked directly in from the 12" version of Hot Stuff, which fades on this CD. The original 12" versions of both songs tracking together can be found on the Anthology boxed set. Also, With Your Love fades about a minute and a half early as compared to the original vinyl version. All this supposedly to fit the full double LP on CD. They did the same thing with Prince's original printing of the 1999 CD, which eliminated the track "DMSR," yet that somehow eventually found its way onto future pressings of the CD. If they had to eliminate any track from this CD for space, it should have been the No More Tears 12", which is available on the On The Radio Greatest Hits CD. Oh well, what do you expect from the inept music industry? \n\nHalf.com Album Credits\nBill Levenson (Compilation), Producer\n\nAlbum Notes\nThis is a compilation of 12" extended version re-mixes with some previously unreleased material.
This misc cd contains 8 tracks and runs 73min 8sec.
