Various This is the place for a song (2005)
This Is the Place For A Song\nVarious Artists \n\nA celebration of Melbourne's multi-culturalism. How do you get people to accept and embrace other cultures apart from their own? How about the music? The idea behind this CD project is to make people appreciate and respect one another's differences and traditions.14 different ethnic communities have been asked to record a classic song written about Melbourne, in Melbourne or by a local resident. Rather than record a song from their own culture, which may be a great tune but unfamiliar to most here, the idea is to get a song most people would know but perform and record it in a new tongue. For example, Vietnamese singers and musicians doing 'Wings Of An Eagle' by Russell Morris or how about a African version of 'Throw Your Arms Around Me' by The Hunters and Collectors. Other acts to have their material covered include Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Jet, The Living End, Skyhooks, Men At work, Kylie Minogue, The Seekers, Paul Kelly, John Farnham, The Ferrets and others.Cultures represented include East Timorese, African, Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Afghan, Russian, Greek, South American, Indian, Hungarian, Portuguese, Japanese and Indigenous Australia. Special guests from the acts that originally recorded the songs have even been roped into appear with the different cultural acts. These include Ross Wilson, Greg Ham from Men At Work, Judith Durham, Russell Morris and Billy Miller from The Ferrets.\n\nTrack listing\n\nDisc 1:\n1. All Torn Down - Frank Yamma (Indigenous)\n2.
