MinGys: Taken From CD Track Listing
MinGys
Taken From (1997)
We are frequently asked which style of music we play. This is a wrong question we\nsuppose for an artist is developing along with the music. That's why its complicated to\nbe caged within self-constructed frontiers. And what we need it for? Two different\nsongs can be in 2 different styles. All in all MinGys balances between Synthpop\nand dance industrial we assume. It's all about melancholic, depressive-aggressive, state\nof mind - like a horror-film soundtrack. \n\nLelik - frontman and leader of the project, born and grown up\n in a military ghetto in OST-BERLIN, DDR an artistic person always\ndreaming of a brilliant stage carrier....BabyMax - keybord player and composer, \nborn in an industrial provincial town in the out-skirts of Moscow,\nmultitalented guy now working in Lomonosov Moscow State university.\nLelik and BabyMax met each other in 1992 in a boarding-school at MSU where bright\nchildren from all over Russia were gathered to get profound knowledge in chemistry,\nmath, physics and to became leading light in science in the future. Lelik and BabyMax \nfound the similar musical likes. BabyMax was into Kraftwerk, DM then. Lelik had very\nwide range of musical preferences from George Michael to The Breeders. But in 1993\nthey were meant to part for Lelik was expelled after having been caught drunk in the\ncampus.In 1994 they occasionally met each other in a street of Moscow. They decided\nto start a band. The band used monophonic analog synthesizer and some of MinGys \nsongs were written that period. We are not the first band being influenced by such states \nof psychic.First came DM, Joy Division with The Cure. The dark, depressive, suffering side of their songs\ninfluenced us a lot. A lighter, more melancholic side of music appears in bands we also\nwould like to mention here. Almost all New order, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, The\nHuman League. The aggression that would meet in our music too is rooted far back in\nKMFDM, Nitzer Ebb. Front 242. And certainly too many other artists we are too short\nof place to mention. What you can listen here to is complete which means we are out of studios on\npurpose.Nowadays the technical progress has made it possible to handle it with a PC\nwith professional sound cards. Ordinary studios are dying being not in demand and\nonly expensive analog studios are left alive....As for MinGys we use PC, synthesizers,\n software and various samplers to create our own sound. We don't use\nany additional sound-engineers not to our sound we are trying to create for a\nsound-engineering is very essential. The other point of MinGys is that all vocals are\nparticipants because each song requires its own vocal and frankly speaking we haven't\nfound that singer to perform each vocal part in all the songs - that's the idea.\nOur first gig took place in one Moscow club in November, 1997 - the same day when\nMichael Hutchens from died. There were more than 300 people. We really like live\nperforming and we make up a dramatic, expressionistic stage show with unforgettable, vivid\natmosphere which remains in memory of any one who drops in for our gigs. As for\nMinGys concerts we have one participant doing all the vocals, Lelik sings as well,\ndances and, BabyMax plays keyboards staying numb out of show all the time. \n
