Recording Notes: (Inside Liner)\nThese pieces were composed, recorded and edited using Digital Performer and Pro Tools running on Macintosh(r) G3and G4 computers. The music was performed on a pair of E-MU E4 samplers leaded with Best Sounds' Peter Siedlaczek Advanced Orchestra set, Spectrasonic's Symphony of Voices, E-MU's Producer Series, and lots of custom samples. Also used were Yamaha(r) S-80 and Roland(r) XV-3080 synthesizers, and various guitars, flutes and hand percussion. Microphones used were a Neumann U-87 and TLM-103, and an AKG C-414; preamps were a Focusrite Red 7and Symetrix 528. Effects processors included Waves Trueverb, L1, C1, Q10; a Yamaha SPX990; and an Alesis Quadraverb 2. Monitoring was via a Genelec 1029a / 1091a system, Mackie HR-824 monitors, and Sony MDR-7506 and Grado SR-125 headphones.\n\nLiner Notes (Inside Liner)\nThis CD representsjust a portion of the music that appears in Pool of Radiance: Ruins Of Myth Drannor. The soundtrack for this game was a formidible undertaking: about two hours of original music conceived in a sweeping orchestral / choral style evoking the grandeur and epic scale of the game's story, whileplaying on themes of decay, loneliness and despair that run throughout. Wewanted to respect the traditions of the genre such as the 'gothic' chiorandthe 'mead hall band' sound, but realize them with a fresh, modern aesthetic. We also wanted the music to sound natural and organic to help complement the gritty realism of the visuals in the game. We always triedtokeepa sense of wit and humor in the music so it wouldn't get bogged down in dreariness (Myth Drannor is a pretty dreary place, after all).
