Various Artists: Jit CD Track Listing

Various Artists Jit (1983)
Jit is a Zimbabwean dance music style characterized by a pulsing yet highly syncopated rhythm, layered with cascading guitar lines. The overall sound is something like a cross between South African township jive and Trinidadian soca. This album features six tracks taken from the soundtrack to a Zimbabwean movie in which the music figures heavily, along with six other radio hits from the same period; it offers a good cross section of the early-'90s jit scene, bringing together tracks by such popular artists as Robson Banda & the New Black Eagles ("Ngoma Ngairire," "Farirai Mwana Auya"), John Chibadura (the strangely reggae-flavored "Zuva Rekufa Kwangu"), and Oliver Mutukudzi ("Under Pressure"). The song quality is very consistent, but Mandebvu's "Pano Pamusha," with its layered vocals and highly intricate rhythmic foundation, is a particular highlight. Strongly recommended. - Authored by Rick Anderson
This soundtrack cd contains 12 tracks and runs 55min 12sec.
