Various Argento Vivo (1986)
REVIEW: \tItalian soundtracks have in the past few years proven to be a treasure-trove of hip, groovy, easy, swinging sounds. Don't be fooled into thinking that this compilation from the soundtracks to the films of Dario Argento is yet another disc full of campy easy listening tunes. This is no 'Beat at Cinecitta' or 'Easy Tempo'. For the most part this is dark, brooding stuff, made for dark, brooding movies. Most of the music credits are taken by Goblin, but Ennio Morricone, Keith Emerson, Simon Boswell and Pino Donaggio are also well represented on this tribute to the art of Argento. For the hardcore soundtrack buffs this is excellent stuff, for the more casual listener this compilation is probably too much of a good thing. With most of the music dating from the seventies and eighties these soundtracks are more prog rock than easy listening, more synths and guitars than horns and violins. Certainly not something to play at parties, but an excellent introduction into a part of Italian film history nonetheless. \t\t\n\nSLEEVE NOTES: \tThis popular compilation is finally back on the record shelves, a number of years after it was originally released, to celebrate the cinema of Dario Argento, the italian Master of Mayhem, at present working on the set of his latest film "Non Riesco a Dormire" (I can't sleep), an urban thriller with the legendary Max von Sydow and the italian film star Stefano Dionisi. This compilation covers, in musical terms, the whole career of Argento, the director who has become an international horror and thriller icon. For those who already have all the Argento soundtracks, Argento Vivo is a great record revival, a whirling ride through all the great musical moments of his cinema. Whereas, for anyone who is not familiar with this kind of music, Argento Vivo is a passport to a whole new world of fear and the supernatural. Ennio Morricone who wrote the experimental noise-music for Argento's early films, Goblin who created "New Rock", an innovative, unrepeatable sound for the director and all the other musicians are here to celebrate thirty years of fantastic cinema that have made generations of audiences sweat, shake and jump in their seats. We have decided to update this ultimate version of Argento Vivo with two of Pino Donaggio's tracks for Trauma (1993) the last film made by Dario Argento in the 'Cinevox Year'. Besides including the romantic Main Theme Song Ruby Rain, for the joy of Dario and Asia Argento fans , we have also added an unreleased tracks as a tribute to Asia, the new Scarlet Diva of Italian and international cinema: a brief take from the Love Theme, the background music to Asia's sensual shower. So go on, scare yourselves silly! \t\t\n\nTRACKS: \tPiume di cristallo Quattro mosche di velluto grigio Profondo rosso Suspiria The library Inferno Zombi Tenebre Phenomena Jennifer Sleepwalking The maggots L'alba del morti viventi The quick and the dead Trauma (Asia's shower) * Ruby rain (vocal song) * previously unreleased\t\n\nDETAILS: \tartist: Various Artists title: "Argento Vivo" label info: CD, Cinevox MDF 337, Italy, 2000 \t\n\n
